Search results update as you type, remain grouped by word length, and can be clicked for a definition. Definition lookup is separate from the core search and uses an online dictionary service only after a result is selected.

Dictionary source and limitations

The built-in alphabetic word list is derived from the open-source DWYL English words collection. Broad word lists can contain uncommon, historical, regional, inflected, and technical forms. They can also differ from the official word list used by a particular game.

For that reason, the site does not label every returned word as legal in Scrabble, Words With Friends, Wordle, a crossword publication, or any other specific game. When legality matters, check the official lexicon or rules for the game you are playing.

How guides are written and reviewed

Guide pages are developed specifically for this site rather than copied from a generic reference source.
