Wordle Tips: A Practical Strategy for Better Guesses
Solve Wordle more consistently by choosing informative opening words, interpreting tile feedback correctly, and narrowing patterns instead of guessing randomly.
Choose an informative first word
A strong opening guess tests common vowels and high-frequency consonants without repeating letters. Words such as slate, crate, trace, and stare sample broadly. The best choice is not universal; it depends on whether you value maximum information, a natural follow-up pattern, or consistency.
Use every color as a constraint
- Green: keep the letter in that exact position.
- Yellow: keep the letter, but move it to another position.
- Gray: normally exclude the letter, while remembering duplicate-letter rules.
Do not waste a turn replaying a yellow letter in the same position. Also avoid guesses that ignore confirmed green letters unless you are intentionally using an information-gathering guess in a non-hard mode.
Watch for duplicate letters
Wordle can mark one copy of a letter while graying another. That means the answer may contain the letter once, but not twice. Duplicate logic is one of the most common causes of incorrect eliminations.
Shift from exploration to pattern solving
Early guesses should reveal letters. Later guesses should resolve the remaining pattern. If the board shows _IGHT, list all plausible first letters before choosing. When several answers remain, select a guess that distinguishes among them rather than testing only one possibility.
